Wire & RAM EDM

Wire & RAM EDM

At Norwood Medical, we’re often asked to produce sophisticated medical devices with complex geometries. For this reason, Norwood Medical is skilled in the operation of wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) and RAM EDM machines. EDM capabilities are integral to our medical device manufacturing toolset, providing a sophisticated alternative to conventional milling and turning tools. In short, EDM is a manufacturing process where a desired shape is obtained using electrical discharge sparks.

Our five-axis wire EDM expertise enables Norwood Medical to perform precise work on very small components where conventional cutting tools may cause damage due to excess cutting tool pressure. Using the wire EDM, we can precisely machine parts with delicate sections or weaker materials without causing any distortion. Norwood Medical’s experienced RAM EDM operators are able to work with very hard materials to manufacture medical devices designed with extremely complex geometries.

Norwood Medical’s EDM operators possess the skills and medical industry knowledge required to make the best production decisions. Our engineers have the experience to make suggestions that increase the longevity and effectiveness of products while minimizing production costs.
